Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information TaskNaija collects, why we collect it, who can see it and what choices you have. We have tried to keep it simple and honest.
1. Who we are
TaskNaija runs the website at tasknaija.com.ng. In this policy “we” means TaskNaija. We are responsible for the personal information described here and we aim to follow Nigeria’s data protection law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
2. Information we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, phone number (if you give one), password (stored in scrambled form, never as plain text) and whether you are a customer, a worker or both.
- Profile information: photo, headline, skills, bio, location and portfolio work you choose to add.
- Jobs and messages: jobs you post, applications you send, messages, reviews and any files you upload to a job or dispute.
- Payment information: proof of payment you upload, the bank account details you give so we can pay you, and a record of payments, wallet balance and withdrawals. We do not collect card numbers.
- Identity documents: if you apply for verification, the ID and related details you submit.
- Technical information: sign-in records, device and browser type, IP address, and pages used, so we can protect accounts and fix problems.
3. How we use it
- To create your account and let you post jobs, apply, chat and get paid.
- To hold, confirm and release payments, and to pay withdrawals.
- To check identities and help keep the community safe from fraud and abuse.
- To look into reports and disputes and decide them fairly.
- To send you important emails and notifications, such as confirming your email address, new applications, messages, payment updates and security alerts.
- To understand how the site is used and to improve it.
- To meet our legal duties and respond to lawful requests.
4. Why we are allowed to
We use your information because it is needed to provide the service you asked for (our contract with you), because we have a genuine interest in running and protecting a safe marketplace, because the law requires it in some cases, and, where needed, because you gave consent. You can withdraw consent at any time, though this may stop some features from working.
5. Who can see your information
- Other users: your public profile (name, photo, headline, skills, reviews and verification badge) can be seen by visitors. Job details, messages and files are seen only by the people involved in that job.
- TaskNaija staff: only the team members who need it, such as those who confirm payments, check identity documents or handle disputes. Their actions are recorded.
- Service providers who help us run the site: our website host, our database provider, our email-sending service and our domain and network provider. They handle data only to provide those services for us.
- Authorities where the law requires it, or to protect people from harm or fraud.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Identity documents and bank details
ID documents are kept private. They are not shown on your profile and are not available to other users. Only authorised staff who verify identities can view them. Bank details you give for withdrawals are used only to pay you and to keep our payment records.
7. Cookies and similar tools
We use only what is needed to run the site:
- A secure sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in.
- A small saved setting in your browser for your colour theme (light, dark or automatic).
We do not use advertising cookies. If we add analytics later, we will update this policy.
8. Where information is stored and how long
Your information is stored with our hosting and database providers, whose servers may be outside Nigeria. We use providers that protect data with appropriate security, and we take steps so it stays protected when it is handled elsewhere.
We keep information for as long as your account is open and for as long afterwards as needed for payment records, disputes, fraud prevention and legal duties. After that we delete it or make it anonymous.
9. How we protect it
We use secure connections (HTTPS), scrambled passwords, two-step sign-in for staff, limits on who can see sensitive data, and records of staff actions. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it private. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
10. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the information we hold about you;
- correct information that is wrong (you can also edit most of it yourself in your profile);
- delete your information, unless we must keep some for legal or payment reasons;
- limit or stop certain uses, including marketing messages;
- give you a copy of your information.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can contact us first, and you also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
11. Children
TaskNaija is for adults. You must be 18 or older to have an account. If we learn that someone under 18 has signed up, we may close the account.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When there is an important change we will tell you on the site or by email, and the date at the top will change. See also our Terms of Use.
